Privacy Notice

Last updated: 17 August 2026

This page is written for parents and carers, because a grown-up holds the account. It explains, in plain English, what we collect about you and your child, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.

1. Who we are

11+ English is the website at 11plusenglish.com and the 11 Plus English app for iPhone and iPad. Both are provided by Ayda Digital, United Kingdom, which is the data controller for the information described here. By using the website or the app you agree to this notice and to our Terms of Use.

Questions, or want something deleted? Email info@11plusenglish.com or use the contact form.

2. The grown-up and the child

  • The account holder is a parent or carer, aged 18 or over. You create the account, you add each child, you choose their username and their 4-digit PIN, and you can see everything they do.
  • A child signs in with that username and PIN. A child cannot create an account, cannot change the account settings, and cannot message anybody. Anything that costs money goes through your own Google, Apple or card details, and on iPhone and iPad through Apple's payment and parental controls. There is no chat with other users, no profile photo and no public profile — nothing a child does is visible to anyone outside your family.

3. What we actually collect

About you (the parent or carer)

  • Your email address and name, given to us by Google or Apple when you sign in. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your address, we only get Apple's private relay address — that works perfectly well.
  • When you last signed in, how many times, and whether your account has a paid pass.
  • Whether you asked for the weekly progress email, and the date you agreed to it.

About your child

  • The name or nickname you type for them, the username you choose, and their 4-digit PIN. The PIN is stored scrambled (hashed) — nobody, including us, can read it back.
  • When they last signed in and how many times.
  • We do not ask for your child's date of birth, age, year group, school, address, phone number, email address or photograph. We have no field for any of them, and we would rather you did not type them anywhere.

What your child does in the app

  • Which modules they open, the answer they chose for each question, whether it was right, their scores, points, streaks, daily activity, and which modules are finished.
  • The text your child writes in a writing task, exactly as they typed it, together with the mark and the written feedback.
  • Maths questions, the answers they gave, and the messages in the maths help chat.

If you buy a Full Access pass

  • On the website payment is handled by Stripe; in the app it is handled by Apple. We never see or store your card number.
  • We keep the record of the purchase — which pass, the amount, the date, the payment reference, and the confirmation record the payment provider sends us.

If you write to us

  • The contact form sends us your name, email address and message. The email we receive also shows the IP address and browser your message came from — that is how we keep spam out. A copy is also pushed to a private alerts channel we use so that messages are not missed.

Ordinary web-server records

  • Our web server keeps standard access logs, which include IP addresses. We read them only in aggregate — for example, to see whether an advert brought anybody to the site. Only totals ever leave the server.

4. Writing is marked by a computer — please read this one

Writing tasks, and the maths help chat, are marked and answered by an AI language model, not a person. To do that we send the text your child wrote, the question, and the marking criteria to one of these providers: DeepSeek, OpenAI or Google (Gemini) — and to comparable services if we change provider. We do not send your child's name, username or any account detail with it: the provider receives the writing and nothing that says who wrote it.

Because that text leaves our servers, please ask your child not to type real names, addresses, schools or anything private into a writing answer or the maths chat. Story writing is meant to be made up.

DeepSeek is based in China; OpenAI and Google are based in the United States. Where this means information leaves the UK, we rely on those providers' standard contractual protections for international transfers.

5. Who else sees anything

  • Google — if you sign in with Google (we receive your email address and name).
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, and In-App Purchases.
  • Stripe — payments made on the website.
  • The AI marking providers named in section 4.
  • Our email provider, to send you a purchase confirmation or the weekly progress email.
  • Google Fonts, Cloudflare and jsDelivr, which serve the fonts and icons on our web pages and therefore see the IP address of the device loading a page.

We do not sell your information, we do not share it with advertisers, and there are no advertising pixels, no analytics trackers and no third-party cookies on the site or in the app. The only cookie we set is the one that keeps you signed in.

6. The weekly progress email

This is off unless you switch it on. If you do, we email you a summary of each child's completed modules, their percentage scores, streak and points. It never includes your child's writing. Every one of those emails carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can turn it off in your parent dashboard at any time.

7. Where it is kept, and for how long

Everything sits in a database on our own server in Europe, not on the public web. We keep your account and your child's progress for as long as the account exists, so that you can look back over it — there is no automatic deletion after a set time. Purchase records are kept for accounting, as the law requires.

8. Deleting it

  • Remove one child: in your parent dashboard. That removes their login and their progress history.
  • Delete the whole account: in your parent dashboard. That removes your account, your children, their progress, their writing and their maths chats. We keep an anonymised purchase record for accounting, with your email address stripped out.
  • Anything else: email info@11plusenglish.com and we will erase it by hand. If you want every last record of one child removed rather than the whole account, just ask — we will do it.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you and your child, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict or stop a particular use, and ask for it in a portable form. As the account holder you exercise these rights on your child's behalf. Email info@11plusenglish.com — we will reply within one month.

We rely on your consent for the optional progress email, on performing our contract with you for running the account and marking work, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113) — though we would rather you told us first.

10. Children

This service is designed for children of roughly 9 to 11, always through a parent's or carer's account. We collect the least we can get away with, we do not build profiles, we do not show advertising, we do not market anything to children, and there is no way for a child to contact anyone through the app. As the account holder you can see, correct, download or delete everything we hold about your child.

11. Security, and its limits

We use HTTPS everywhere, we store PINs and passwords scrambled, and the database is not reachable from the web. But please be realistic about what that protects:

  • The account is only as private as the device and the PIN. The app remembers the sign-in so your child does not have to retype it, which means anyone who can unlock that phone or tablet can open the app and see your child's progress and writing.
  • Anyone signed in to your parent account — a partner, another family member, anyone using your computer — can see everything about every child on it.
  • Keep the device locked, keep the PIN to yourselves, and sign out on a shared or borrowed computer.
  • No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot be responsible for what someone does with information after they have gained access to your device, your account, or a link you have shared with them.

12. Changes to this notice

If we change how any of this works we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is a big one we will say so on the site.
